The Nerdy Parent is a small, independent parenting site run by me, Trevor Prentice, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I collect as little personal information as I can, I never sell it, and you can ask me to delete it any time by emailing [email protected].
What I collect and why
When you subscribe or join a waitlist
- Your email address, so I can send you The Nerdy Parent newsletter and unlock the "Free with Subscription" posts.
- If you join a waitlist, which product you were interested in, so I know what to build next and who to tell when it's ready.
When you buy premium access
- Payments are handled by Stripe. I never see or store your card number.
- Stripe shares your name, email address, country and the amount paid with me, so I can unlock your access, send a receipt and help if something goes wrong.
- If you use "Unlock" on another device, the site checks your email address against Stripe's records to confirm your purchase.
When you visit the site
- Like almost every website, the web host keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited, time). These are used for security and fixing problems.
- I use Google Analytics to see which posts people read. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information like your approximate location, device and the pages you visit. You can opt out with Google's browser add-on.
Cookies
- Access cookies: remember that you've subscribed or bought premium access, so posts stay unlocked on that device. They contain no personal information, only which posts you can read. The site needs them for unlocking to work.
- Google Analytics cookies: described above.
- Embedded content: some posts include YouTube videos. YouTube may set its own cookies when you play them.
Who else handles your information
I only share your information with the services that run the site:
| Service | What it does | What it gets |
|---|---|---|
| Systeme.io | Sends the newsletter and stores the email list | Email address, waitlist interest |
| Stripe | Processes payments | Payment details you enter at checkout |
| Namecheap | Hosts the website | Server logs |
| Google Analytics | Visitor statistics | Analytics data described above |
Some of these companies store data outside Canada (for example in the United States or the European Union), where it is protected by their own privacy policies and local laws.
Links to other sites (like Notion, Google Drive, Instagram, or Facebook) are covered by those sites' own privacy policies.
I never sell, rent or trade your personal information.
Emails
Every email includes an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing stops the emails. It doesn't remove access to posts you've already unlocked on your devices.
How long I keep it
- Email addresses stay in my records until you ask me to delete them.
- Purchase records are kept as long as Canadian tax rules require.
Your choices and rights
You can ask me to:
- tell you what personal information I have about you
- correct it
- delete it (except purchase records I'm required to keep)
Email [email protected] for this.
Children
The Nerdy Parent is written for parents. The site isn't directed at children, and I don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you think a child has signed up, email me and I'll delete their info.
